At the society of Xtras we invite you to use the set, the props and the costume as the tools to create your own show. We invite anyone to take part and see where the muse leads them, whether it is a vignette or part of an epic tale. The Society of Xtras was initiated by Helen Judge, Cathy Dunbar and Natalie Lake at the Strawberry Fair in 2007.
The inspiration for our name came from Nicolas Bourriards Relational Aesthetics which has come to be seen as a defining text for a wide variety of art produced by a generation who came to prominence in Europe in the early 1990s.Bourriard described how these artworks relied on the inter-human relations which they represented, produced or prompted. He coined the phrase "Society of extras"
